A custom order is a sequence, not a single transaction. Knowing the stages makes it easier to spot a problem early.
You provide deity, size, pose, finish and any reference. The workshop confirms feasibility and quotes a price and timeline.
A drawing or reference composition is approved. This is the cheapest point at which to change your mind.
The marble block is chosen and the rough form cut. Grain direction is set here and cannot be changed later.
Face, hands, ornaments and drapery are carved. This is the longest stage and where most of the value is created.
Polishing, or painting and sealing if a painted finish was chosen.
Photographs are sent for approval, then the piece is foam-moulded, crated and dispatched.
Most delays come from late changes to the design, not from carving. Lock the design early.
Timelines depend on size and detail — a single figure typically takes a few weeks, larger or multi-figure works take longer. Confirm the timeline in writing.
Before carving starts, at the reference approval stage. Changes after blocking is underway are expensive and sometimes impossible.
